Mediaset step in the future with Full IP Evertz Technology
Evertz and Professional Show are proud to announce the launch of Mediaset IP migration infrastructure of contribution and production network base on three locations: Milano-Cologno. Roma-Elios and Roma Palatino.
Mediaset following the successful launch of this first IP OB-VAN, began a new project to move their existing baseband SDI facility to IP. A critical requirement of this project was to specify a new routing core capacity to accommodate future growth. A move to an IP-based routing core was essential Mediaset requirement to ensure they invest in a future-proof infrastructure. In addition, the ability of the IP core to easily interface with existing baseband SDI systems ensures that interoperability issues between new and legacy systems will be minimized. Mediaset selected Evertz’ SDVN technology for their next generation IP core.

The heart of Mediaset’s routing core is the Evertz EXE2.0 High Capacity IP Switch fabric with up to 256 25GbE ports.
The EXE2.0 offered a high capacity, non-blocking architecture which made it the only switch fabric to meet Mediaset’s requirements.
In addition, Evertz 670IPG-X19-25G gateways will be utilized to interface Mediaset’s baseband systems into the new ST 2110-based IP core.
Mediaset’s new IP facility will use Evertz’ 9821EMR-AG-HUB to convert the Dante flows in their audio production to SMPTE ST 2110-30 audio flows. The entire facility will use evMV-25G-3QSFP to monitor all the incoming SMPTE ST-2110 video and audio flows through the facilities.
Multiple Evertz 5700MSC, master clock generator, located in all areas will be used for providing for all the necessary timing as well as SMPTE ST 2059-2 PTP reference clock.

Evertz’ MAGNUM is the facility’s Orchestration and control of the IP flows and devices across all three locations. The federated nature of MAGNUM, allows for maximum redundancy and scalability.
Monitoring and Analysis of the new IP infrastructure will be managed by Evertz’ VistaLINK PRO, as the network management system, and inSITE, data analytics. The combination of the two services provide real-time capture of all data points across all three sites to aid in troubleshooting any potential issues with comprehensive log correlation and analysis.
VistaPRO IRM (Intelligent Resource Manager) is a tool that allows Mediaset to schedule resources on the network that connects the three sites.
“One of the most difficult challenges of transitioning to IP is developing a solution that not only is forward compatible with new emerging technologies but also backwards compatible with our existing baseband systems, said Mauro Cassanmagnago, Head of Mediaset Technical Department. Evertz Orchestrator SDVN, gives us a future proof solution that was easy to integrate into our existing infrastructure.”
“The transition to IP has created a surge of new technologies, including ST2110, ST2059, AMWA IS-04/05 and all protocols and profile necessary to manage Broadcast Video and Audio over IP.
Customers are demanding flexible, agile and versatile IP solutions that support these new technologies, said Mauro Cassanmagnago.
Customers, as part of their critical requirements for the transition to IP expect IP solutions that embrace these new technologies while at the same time interoperate with existing legacy systems.
